First quarter is already finished. Thank you to the students who worked hard to get their make up work done quickly.
With regard to the flu, any kind of flu as well as any other contagious diseases, we are making a few changes in our classroom.
1. Even though the kids and I love to do a "high 5" at the end of the day, I will offer several options. I am able to wash my hands immediately after this, whereas the students do not have this opportunity. For those who are concerned about spreading germs, I will offer fist bumps, elbow bumps, simply saying good bye without touching, or the usual high 5.
2. The drinking fountain can be a breeding ground for germs, so I strongly encourage the use of water bottles. At the very least, speak to your child about how to use the bubbler correctly. It amazes me how many kids still touch it with their mouths!
3. There will be hand sanitizers available throughout the room for use after using a tissue. Some students already have them in their desks.
I am not trying to instill panic, just precautionary measures as encouraged by our last science unit.
Speaking of science, I debated giving this week off, but I know there are two kinds of people when it comes to days off of school: those who like to have off and not think about anything, and those who like to use it to work ahead. For those in the second category, I am handing out vocabulary words for the new unit on Monday. They will be due Tuesday, November 3, and the test will be Tuesday, November 10. The point sheet will come home either Tuesday or Wednesday this week.
As mentioned before, there is no spelling unit this week. There is also no new blog word.
Happy Thanksgiving
