Tuesday newsletter

Fourth Grade Tuesday Times
November 3, 2009

Science
A new point list was handed out yesterday. It is much simpler than last time, with fewer choices and fewer points needed to get an A. Vocabulary cards were due today, and the test is next Tuesday. Please remind your child when s/he is working on them that points are lost if copying is not done carefully.

Family Tree
The form for this came home in today’s Tuesday folder. It is mostly self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, feel free to call Mrs. Johnson or bring them up at conference later this week. These are due at the end of the second quarter, in the middle of January. They are not graded because this is something that is done for fun and for research purposes. Later in the year, probably April or May, we have a Family Tree Day where we dress as our ancestors did and share some of the information from our “trees.” When the sheet asks for “where,” please include city and state, if possible, and country, if applicable. I do not need the names of hospitals, but names of schools are great, if you can. This is often the most challenging part. Also, include middle names whenever they are known. Much is learned about families through middle names. Because there is an interview involved, I am giving these to you before the holidays, in case there is a family member you might be seeing. When the sheet asks for the name of the country or countries your ancestors came from, you may need to go back a long ways to get out of the U.S., and some of it may be guess work. Just do the best you can. In the section where it asks for a story, almost anything that shows what life was like long ago would be good, but do not feel obligated to have one.

Parent/Teacher Consultations
If you have not yet signed up for one, please do so as soon as possible. If for some reason you are unable to make these times, please speak to the teachers to make other arrangements. These consultations are a great time to touch base and share information about how the school year is going.
